We were told that is was a Neuner & Hornsteiner, but there was no label. Google puts them in Mittenwald, Germany, and especially in the 19th century, but the title seems to cover a lot of violins even up to 1950’s. There is a “Stradavarius” stamp in the wood at the base of the neck. The neck has been replace at some time, but it seems that the original scroll was kept. The replacement is barely noticable. I have more recently started to use gut strings and tune to 415 or lower. I personally feel it sounds better. Might it have originally had a baroque neck (or is it older than I suspect) that was replaced with a modern neck.
